Health classes explained

Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard: the definitions, and what determines your classification.

Carriers determine term life cost through rate classification. Terminology differs slightly by firm, but the sequence remains: Preferred Plus (sometimes called Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, followed by extra charges for elevated hazard. Tobacco users occupy a separate class structure with higher rates.

What underwriters look at

Build proportions (height and mass), arterial force and lipid levels, ancestors' heart or malignancy history before sixty, driving conduct, medication background, work field and pastimes, and cigarette or nicotine consumption. Top ratings demand favorable marks nearly across the board; Preferred accepts slightly more variance; Standard Plus and Standard accommodate managed issues such as managed high blood pressure.

How to use the quote tool

The health inquiry invites your frank self-assessment: Excellent correlates with Preferred Plus, Very good with Preferred, Good with Standard Plus and Average with Standard. Your quote displays this category; the carrier verifies the final tier following underwriting. If uncertain, obtain quotes at two levels and examine them side by side, letting the underwriting process establish the true category. Inflating your health grade doesn't lower the final premium; it simply clouds the estimate.

Susman Insurance Agency can point you to carriers with friendlier standards for specific circumstances, which frequently counts more than the base price.
